Memo of Support
Bill Number: A.3314
Sponsors: Lancman
Title of Bill: OSHA Notification Bill
The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH)
supports the "OSHA notification act" which requires the New York City
Commissioner of Buildings to report to the federal Occupational Safety
and Health Administration any violations of this code, which in the
Department of Building’s judgment, would potentially endanger workplace
safety. The proposed legislation further requires such report to
include, but not be limited to, the number and types of violations
reported to OSHA.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New York City
Buildings Department have overlapping, but differing missions. The
former is responsible for worker safety; the latter for public safety.
Given the limited and insufficient number of OSHA inspectors monitoring
construction in the New York City, this legislation would provide OSHA
with needed information about unsafe and hazardous conditions on
construction site. |
