Vital bills of Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows), Chairman of the Assembly Subcommittee on Workplace Safety, have passed the Assembly and are headed to the Senate floor. Assemblyman Lancman’s legislation addresses the foreclosure crisis, homeland security for non-profits, healthcare planning for communities impacted by Mary Immaculate and St. John’s Hospital closures and fair representation on juries.

The Access To Justice In Lending Act levels the legal playing field between banks and homeowners by giving prevailing borrowers the right to recover attorney's fees in foreclosure proceedings, a right already enjoyed by lenders.

The Non-Profit Homeland Security Preparedness Study Act would require the state to study the need for, and feasibility of, establishing a state program to parallel the existing inadequate and sporadic federal program to assist nonprofits with the burdens of enhancing their security from threats of terrorism,.

A.8461/S.5802: The Hospital Closure Planning Act
The Hospital Closure Planning Act provides that whenever a hospital closes, the Commissioner of Health shall within thirty days of being notified of such closure, hold a public hearing and issue a written report to the Governor and Legislature with options and proposals for replacing or enhancing such health care services through other means in order to meet the needs of residents in the affected community; makes related provisions.

The Jury Pool Fair Representation Act provides for the collection of demographic data for jurors who present for service and for the submission of such data in an annual report to the Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, Temporary President of the Senate and the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
